Profile

Research Experience

B.Sc in Chemistry from University of Calcutta, M.Sc in Bio-chemistry from University of Calcutta and PhD in Life Sciences and Biotechnology from Jadavpur University. Specialization on electron microscopic techniques: negative stain analysis, immune-electron microscopy, ultramicrotomy, Kleinschmidt's protein monolayer technique, partial denaturation mapping of DNA, heteroduplex analysis of DNA, cryo-electron microscopy, single particle analysis with special emphasis on structural characterization of vibriophages. Postdoctoral research associate at Florida State University, USA to study HIV/SIV glycoprotein spikes and their complexes with broadly neutralizing antibodies using cryo-electron tomography and subtomogram averaging to provide structural information for designing better immunogen. Career development fellow at MRC-NIMR(London) later merged to Francis Crick Institute, London, UK to work on structural intermediates of bacterial replication initiation process and also retroviral capsid structures using cryo-electron tomography. Worked as senior staff scientist in cryo-electron microscopy at University of Sheffield, UK..

Research Interest

Research Interest: My research interest focused on solving structures of bacteriophages, enveloped viruses and associated membrane proteins to understand the structure-function relation and fundamental processes such as host-virus interaction and viral entry. I am also interested in structural analysis of protein and their complexes, immune-complexes to explain their functions in biological processes and related diseases. Surface structural changes and in-depth ulltrastructural changes caused by different enteric pathogens are also studied by scanning and transmission electron microscopy techniques. Primary research techniques used in our laboratory are negative staining analysis, Kleinschmidt’s protein monolayer technique of DNA, partial denaturation mapping of DNA, immunoelectron microscopy, ultramicrotomy for thin sectioning, cryo-electron microscopy and tomography, image processing and three-dimensional image reconstruction, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. .
